yep, definitely planning on going back this year! We had a nice sized caravan heading up last year. It was a really cool show. Lots of pics from last year on pages 5 and 6 of this thread.

I got site 17 again, same as last year. Lady on phone said there was only one river front site left, and it was tiny.

What are you wanting to know?  Bryce posted the website for it up above.  You have to call to make reservations.  Some sites will hold two vehicles.  I thought they all would, but when I called to make my reservation, she said it just depends on the width of the site as to whether they'll allow two.  It's not a huge place, it's very wooded.  Jack, Carl, and a few others had some really nice creekfront sites last year (with water and electricity), but I think they are already booked (except for the last small one which is right against the road).   There are also some creekfront sites on the other side of the campground, but they don't have water/electricity.  It's a pretty high elevation, so it stayed pretty cool at night and we didn't need our fan.

There is a map on the website showing the sites and which ones have water/electric.

Just figured out why we do not go to this event. Paulding School Starts...Aug 1st for my kids so we cant leave early enough to make the trip worth while. Looks like its a no go for us until Paulding Schools Decide to start the kids later like all the other countys.

I was thinking about pulling my daughter out of school early and leave about 4, but with a 3+ hour drive I'm not sure. I hate rushing around. I'd like to enjoy the drive. I'm not sure it is going to be worth it.

We had a blast last year, The small site they are talking about is a small site but the time you are there it works just fine, I was stuck in it last year. The show is a good show and we took some bikes so during the day we road around the town, That made it nice. milk shakes and coffee was the hit ridding around in town on the bikes. I hate to miss it this year but we sold our bus and bought another one and it wont be ready. So next your will be a good one. Have a great time. Very Happy

Here are some great picks from last year having nothing but fun.

We drove through Cherokee this afternoon, rivers looked good for some tubing. Also saw this guy just chilling and eating on the side of the road right before the entrance to the smokey mount park.

He must be paid to stand there. Because each time we drive through there, he is always standing there.Laughing

Two things:

1) When I reserved my campsite, I had asked for creekside site, but the only one left was a tiny site (15).  Well the lady from the campsite called today and said that creekside site #1 had opened up, which looks huge on the campsite map.  I decided to stick with the site I already had, but if you want a creekside site, #1 may still be open.

2) Got an email from the Cherokee Show people today.  Most everyone from this site that was there last year was on the email list, but in case you weren't, here's what it said:

Hello Fellow VW Lovers,

If you are receiving this email, it is likely you attended the 2012 VW Show in Cherokee, North Carolina and we would like to invite you back for the 2013 Show. We are revamping the show a little and we hope that the changes will make the show more exciting and enjoyable for all. I have attached a flyer with important dates and times. Please take a look and share it with other fans of VW.

We will be doing the poker run a little differently this year. Last year all of the stops were in the Acquoni Expo Center parking lot. We thought it would be much more fun to put the stations for drawing cards around town. So you will be able to hope in your ride and enjoy the scenery and Cherokee while you pick that winning hand (hopefully).

There will be live music at the lunch hour and supper hour prior to the awards ceremony. A great local band, The Boomers, will provide the music. They play country, golden oldies, pop and classic rock.

Games include Corn Hole (the popular bean bag version of horseshoes), Karaoke, Poker Run, Frisbee “Hole-In-One” and Frozen T-Shirt.  There will be door prize drawings throughout the day for great gifts from local merchants. We have 6 car categories that will be judges with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies in each category. There is also a Best of Show Trophy and an Ugliest VW Trophy to be awarded.

Harmony Motors, the Asheville, North Carolina, VW Dealership will be on hand with VW stuff. They are also bringing their Tie-Died Bug for everyone to take a peek at.

How do you register? I am glad you asked.

On-site registration directions are on the attached flyer. But if you just can’t wait, you may register online now at   http://visitcherokeenc.com/buy-tickets/ . Once you are registered, all you will have to do to get in to the show is show us your printed copy of your completed registration.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the show!

If you're there at 5pm, you will probably hear a whistle, see him stand up, put on a business hat, grab his lunch box and walk away.
Or maybe I have watched too many cartoons.

So who all is heading up Friday and when? I'd like to leave pretty early friday morning after the rushhour traffic has settled down and drive while it's still cool.
