Earliest beetle

Post by DubDawg2579 on Tue Apr 30, 2013 2:00 pm

Although I have only owned the later models (mainly due to budget at the time), I couldn't be a bigger fan of the early model vdubs. I (as most of us here do) honestly have an appreciation for any and all things VW. Sure I prefer the aircooled, but water-cooled Volkswagens still get my attention. I noticed we have a section for 50s, 60s and 70s models...but what is the earliest model bug of a registered user here on GA Dubs? Or better yet...in the US? They were produced beginning in 1945...so just curious if any pre 50s existed in GA. I noticed Rick Bowers posted a youtube vid of a 1951, and it seems that's the earliest on this site. Just curious if that was the earliest model on here.

I haven't seen a really early car at the shows (if I did, I can't remember).

It would be kinda hard to figure out for sure what the oldest VW is in GA. One reason is that they may not be a member of this site, or they may not take it to shows or drive it. Then, if you try to search for the oldest VW in the nation, it would be even harder. Shocked

It would probably be pretty cool to know that though.

Although not in Georgia, Mac Jones over in TN has a lot of war time and post war VW's. I saw his Schwimmer go across the lake YEARS ago at a show in knoxville.

Actually, my trip to BAP and being a member GA Dubs is what peaked my interest. There were some older models at BAP as well as on here, but I was surprised to not see any MUCH older beetles at the show. I even scanned almost all the pages of general chat to make sure the topic wasn't beat to death, lol

Mac Jones? Doesn't sound familiar. I'll definitely be looking him up. Sounds interesting. BRB study

How about a 213 page thread about a 1938 Beetle found in Lithuania? One of the 3 oldest know VW's in existence: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=340552&start=0

Really remarkable how they identified the car, and how the Grundmans restored it
