Changed the oil and adjusted the valves. 2 of the for sump plate studs wont tighten guess I need a step stud for one the other there is no way to fix it. The hole is too close to the big hole in the bottom of the case so idk what to do about it

That's awesome! Glad you got to drive it to the show. Your dummy light for the speedo is working isn't it? It has to be working for the alt to charge. Is it an internal or external VR alternator?

I see where Tim is going with this though.

When you did the "pull the wire and touch it to a ground test", did you use the alternator body for the ground, or something else?

From what I'm reading, your red light isn't coming on at all unless you unplug the wire from the alt and ground it to something else.  This means your idiot light is working.  An alternator that isn't functioning correctly will keep your idiot light on all the time.  If this alternator was definitely tested "good", and your idiot light won't even come on with the key just turned to the on position, I'd guess your alternator isn't grounded.

Of course, if you can pull the wire, touch it to the alt body, and the light comes on, this probably isn't the case.

Idr where I grounded it to I think it was the oil cap. So the engine is grounded. I got a new one today but broke the pully. I had this same problem when I put this alternater on my black car. Though the guy saifld it was good hopefully this new one will work so I can get the tails figured out

Yeah, it was probably just a bum alternator.
