1962 ragtop

Post by fluxcap on Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:45 pm

Here's a quick peek with the ragtop cover installed. I wasn't able to get my tires mounted yesterday, so I couldn't roll it out and get any shots in the sun. I'll try and get a few better shots next week. Oh, the headliner (under the popout) looks filthy, but it's really just dirt on the rear window.

Thanks! It took me a couple of weeks to decide which ragtop cover to go with. Most places only carry the dark navy blue, but WCC had material for a dove blue top. I got a small sample of each and went to the fabric store and bought a yard of fabric that matched each sample. Then put each one over the car and stared at them forever.
I had it painted in Griffin. A shop called R/T collision on 1941. Overall I'm happy with the paint job for the price. It's got a few imperfections here and there, but it didn't cost an arm and a leg either.

Interior is now about 95% done. Just need to make some kickpanels for the rear seat. Once I get the windshield in (maybe this weekend pale ) I'll install the rearview and visors and put the steering wheel back in. I also need to clean it, those popouts are filthy Embarassed

Installed retractable 3 point belts up front. I wanted 3-point and retractable, but didn't want the generic black aftermarket kit, so I searched for a while and found these at jbugs. They don't come with the wolfsburg crest, but I installed stickers from cip1.

Thanks Bryce. I do have a few pics from when me and my dad brought it home almost 10 years ago. Unfortunately, they aren't digital. I'll try and dig the scanner out of the closet and post up a few pics of what I started with.

Thanks Eric! I've got a few more little things to finish up, but I'm glad to just be at the stage where I can start driving and enjoying it.

Finally got some old pics scanned in. These were taken during the "tear apart" stage about 10 years ago. There was a coat of white and a coat of blue over the original turquoise. Oh, and a nice coat of rust was in there too Laughing . A few holes around the front and rear windows and hood area, but the rest of the rust in the pics wasn't quite at bad as it looks.

And here are a few pics after I tackled the body issues and was getting it ready for paint.

I've got some inbetween pics of the body and pan separated, but I need to keep digging to find those.

A few new pics now that the front and rear are lowered.

Here it is with just the front lowered. I don't have a real good picture showing the gap between the rear fender and wheel, but if you've seen it in person, you know you could just about fit your head in there.

This picture kinda shows the gap better

Well I finally dropped the rear. Just one spline, so it's not slammed, but the gap is gone and the fender sits just below the top of the tire.

straight on shot

Finished installing and wiring up my alternator this afternoon! Also switched back to my aftermarket shroud in preparation for my dual carbs. The CB air cleaners wouldn't fit with my original shroud. The aftermarket shroud gives about an extra 1.25 inches of space. Somehow I able to get oil bath to fit all the way with this shroud this time. Fought with it like crazy last year when I tried running it with the aftermarket shroud.

And just because I haven't added any pictures in a while, here are a few recent pictures.

What size tires are you running front and rear? Looks like you've got the perfect stance without being completely slammed

Thanks guys! Fronts are 175/55/15 with CB Performance dropped/disc spindles. Beam is narrowed 60mm, which is close to 2.5 inches. Adjusters are down just a tad.

Rears are just regular 165/15. It's got a little rake to it. I've got a pretty steep driveway, so I couldn't go too low, or else I could never leave the house!
