Re: And then the unthinkable!

Bob, I'll have to look at that area and see what shape it is in. Kelly got back in today. Picked her up at the airport and took her to see the damage. She was just glad I wasn't hurt and very happy to have not been in passenger seat. I'm not sure about the exact colors of that carpet, but it seemed like they had a bunch of colors. I just went for the gray since it was a close match to the carpet I have inside.

Bryce, aside from the bottom, that door looks great. I'll definitely take you up on it. I'll bring you some goodies you may be able to use when you start on that 64. I'll blast the bottom of that door and should have enough decent metal left on mine to patch it up. If you're around Wednesday, I may swing by and pick it up. I really appreciate it. I'm gonna try and look at those fenders Eric(Votwing) has sometime this week also!

Thanks guys.

Thanks man! I'm gonna get the fenders off maybe this weekend and give it a good looking over. I'll definitely keep your clip in mind if it looks like I'll need to replace any sections.

Eric man I feel for you, that is crazy bad luck, but as others have said the main thing is you are ok, and you didn't have a passenger. Good luck getting it sorted.

Never saw the deer again. The road we were on didn't have much of a side to it, so there was no where safe to immediately pull off. I drove on about 100-200 feet and pulled into a small parking lot. I just saw the deer for a split second, then cringed and looked back at the road trying to find an escape route. Bob was behind me though and said it was a very large buck.

Re: And then the unthinkable!

Usually it will run off and die. Could not get any good meat from a hit deer anyway.
Have a few deer stories myself, will not fix your car but might give you a chuckle....
Years back my ex came home and said a deer had hit her, I said you mean you hit a deer, and she said no it hit her?? I went out and looked at the car and she explained.... She was comming home from work about 11:30 pm and saw a deer in the road, she stopped and it stood there looking at her. Well she started honking the horn at it and it came at her and rammed the side of the car. I would not have believed it until I saw the damage and the fur was stuck in on the back side of the marker. Demolished the fender. She said afetr that she wanted to hit him back, scared the crap out of her!!!

My experience was about 3am on I-81 in VA, driving down from PA to SC to pick up my daughter and was running about 90 in the wifes 00 new beetle. Came around a curve and there was a deer in the middle of the lane (dead) no time to swerve so stradled it and it sent the car airborne! Got back under control and pulled over. A lady in a cherokee had hit it and it totalled her car, the grill was almost into her widshield. She was ok, and the HP came and took reports and she went to the hospital for minor injurys from the airbag. Well I check the car and other than a cracked air dam no noticeable damage. Try and drive and the car is running really rough so pull off at the next exit and find a shop. Wait till they open the next morning and the guy puts it on the lift to look. Well I skinned the deer, there was blood, skin, and fur all under the car. The hind leg had wedged between part of the frame and was actually pulling the engine back with the exhaust. The mechanic pulled out a good sized box full of deer parts from under the car and only charged me $25!!!! After getting the hind quarter out it ran like it should, but OMG the rest of the trip all I could smell was burning hair flesh and blood!!! Long trip, but one I will never forget. Nothing like being airborn at 90mph!!

Those are pretty good. It's bad luck enough to hit one while moving, but to be rammed while the car is sitting still is nuts!

Got my fenders today from Eric(Votwing). Thanks again for the sale! Should be getting the door from Bryce next weekend, then I can get started on the work after the new year!

That's nuts man. I couldn't even tell what it was until the last picture. Freaky indeed! Hope the car didn't smell of dead bodies when you found it. Shocked

Maybe he laid the old school smack down back in the day or...........................this could have been used in some sort of a masochistic, group sex orgy where you tease each others nipples with hair from an emu's tail, small electric shocks, covered in sesame oil while riding fence post shaped dildos under a tent made of human flesh and drinking the urine of a mini horse. I don't know.................the wrestling seems weird.

Did'nt Bundy and a few other serial killers drive beetles? Hmmm.. Piece of history maybe??? The owner was definatly not a wrestler so the later?....

The mask was actually under the back seat, under the carpet. From the glue pattern around it and not underneath looks to have been there from the factory. Scared the crap outta me when I found it. Was cutting the car up and taking the interior out when I pulled the carpet out it was loking up at me! I expected spiders and general incects abound but not that thing!
Poor car, if he had just parked it would have been in better shape. The tarp for 25 years just ate it up. It held moisture and rotted the body away. The hood and deck were the only semi survivors where the tarp had rotted and left uncovered. Note to all! If you have an old project elevate the tarp above it do not drape it on the car, it will hold moisture!!!!

It's still driveable. I drove it home about 25 minutes from the accident and other than freezing to death, the rest of the trip went fine. I don't think anything mechanically was damaged luckily. Just pure cosmetics.
