Bug-eyed.net

Post by Attorney Isaiah Loophole on Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:40 pm

Went and purchased some odds and ends with Bob down at Gary's today. I had a great experience and got some good buys! I was surprised by the amount of new parts they had in stock. I would recommend taking a trip there and checking it out!

Gary is terrific, he and his son are always very friendly and very good on prices. They are working on a great website too that'll have a lot of their inventory listed. He's definitely worth the trip if you need stuff. He's got a very nice new building setup with tons of new parts, not just used. I stop by there quite a bit just to see what he has laying around.

I would shop at Gary's on a weekly basis when I was building my rail buggy. Him and his son are really great people. They have everything you need to get you on the road. They have the lowest prices I have seen around. I would really recommend you check out the shop when you are doing your next build. They can save you a lot of money.

Going down in the morning to get some goodies. I would have called him and we would have worked it out. He's a stand up guy.

I also have never had them be anything but stand up guys. Even on used parts, we've gone out to get parts, thinking we needed something for one year only to find out it's not quite right....we deal with a lot of donation cars, etc...so sometimes we get the wrong part from Gary because either our info on the car is off, etc etc....All we've had to do it call him or just go back and he swaps it out with no trouble. He's even mailed us the correct part and just had us keep the original part, even if it was our mistake.

It sounds to me like the problem that happened here listed on here was an honest mistake that may have been blown out of proportion. I have a feeling if the shipping error or whatever it was would have been noticed right away and tempers hadn't have flared so quickly this would've been a glowing reference on the way Gary offered to replace a wrong part, instead of name calling or nasty emails from one side or the other.

Gary and his son both are awesome guys who are honest to a fault. Love dealing with them, and I'll go to them any time I need it.

As far as that goes, all the guys here on the Dub site have been great to work with, Tim Baker, Doodle, etc.....all are straight up guys and it's easy to accuse or call names or blow your top over something if you just don't stop to think or be level headed for a bit first.

^That kinda sums it up here IMO.

I bought my front and rear bumpers from Gary at the Severville show a couple years ago. This was the only transaction that I have done with him, however it was a positive experience. I would gladly do business with him again in the future.

Only takes one time getting stung to change a persons mind. My mind was made up about this particular vendor a long time ago.

Never had a problem until today. But after today never again. Nobody is going to cuss at me, he was proven wrong on something, and when I showed it to him in the empi catalog he got a MAJOR attitude.

I think that's enough info. I had a now closed shop yell at my wife once. whenever something like that happens there's no going back. plenty of other places to get parts.

It usually takes two to Tango!

However, not having been a fly on the wall, I would not preclude buying from these guys. Mike seems to be in a similar line of work, so he obviously knows how a customer should be treated! I too have dealt with the Gary's and am not real crazy about them personally. I was rather agitated by the way he reffered to his neighbors in a racially motivated way. I also don't like foul language, even in conversation, but if directed at me? yup, that probably would be my last encounter with them also.

They may have some VW knowledge, but it gets muddled at times. Little gary swore up and down at a show that the elephant ear mirrors were correct for my Bay Window. Even after showing him the bus, he didn't waver! If you can just tell them what you want specifically, you can do OK.

The low prices are enticing, but there is no way I would ever order anything from them. I will, and have driven down there with a big list and checked all myself.

Some things I can overlook, but NEVER could overlook being mistreated as a customer! I mean goodness, I am here to give you money! You gonna treat me like that?

Unless I'm in a hurry, I'll stick with the west coast mail order places. Doghouse, CIP-1 and J-Bugs-CalPac have all been great.

There just selling parts / if some is looking for problem solving solutions talk to a vw mechanic not the guy trying to sell parts / do your own research and ask questions before you buy.

I have bought parts from Gary on numerous occasions and have had very good service and have received excellent prices. I shopped there today and was treated great. I also got some incredible deals on several hard to find ghia parts. I drop by there whenever I am in the neighborhood.
