Pictures of tire, wheel, and suspension thread

Post by Attorney Isaiah Loophole on Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:00 pm

I am going to borrow the idea of a suspension thread from the samba for our forum.

Please post a side or angled picture of your beetle and specs:
-Tire make and size.
-Wheel make, size or offset.
-Spindle drop, beam narrowed dimensions. Who's make?
-spring plate mods and extensions, number of splines down. Who's?
-Tubbed, cut torsion, short axle or long axle, swing to IRS, etc..
-Tie rod flip kits, caster shims, etc.
-Brakes- disc/drum, type 3 drums out back, etc. - what brand used?
-shocks/no shocks- what brand.
-If I ever do this again I would have...........

(PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC SO THIS CAN BE A USER FRIENDY RESOURCE, NOT WHO IS LOWER OR COOLER OR WHATEVER)

I will start with my 61

Nankang tires all around

Front:
135s w/ porta walls on stock smoothies
cut and turned non-narrowed front beam
flipped tie rods
stock drums
no shocks

Rear:
one click on the back on a short axle tranny
165 w/ porta walls on stock smoothies

57 Beetle

Front
195/50-R15 General Tire
Stock style rims (chromed, unknown manufacturer or width)
Stock beam with weld-in adjusters, not narrowed
Stock spindles
AC Industries wide-5 disc brakes
Needs new shocks!

Rear
195/65-R15 Continental
Stock style rims (chromed, unknown manufacturer or width)
Torsion bars reindexed from scratch, previous owner messed them up bad so that the car leaned and had NO preload on one side. With the tire removed and car jacked, the spring plate didn't touch the stop.

Cheers,

Pete
