7th Annual Athens VW club Poker Run

It is time once again to sign up for the Poker Run. It will be run on May 7th. As always we will start in Helen GA behind the Best Western. Start time is 10:00am.

This year the host hotel is the Best Western. The rate is $59.00. Call and tell them you are with the Athens VW Club. 706 878 2111
They have a block of rooms for us both Friday and Saturday night.

Cost is $30.00 per person drawing cards. If you are not playing, there is no cost; however, we ask that at least one person per car plays. Entry fee gets you a chance at some nice prizes, a great cruise thru the mountains, and an event T-shirt. The first stop is lunch at Fender's Diner- you will need lunch money.

Gonna be a blast. To any new folks: Please put at least 100 miles of driving on your vehicle before you reach the mountains. This ain't the place to test drive your car after a duct tape and bailing wire repair

The shirts have been ordered, the route has been pre-run to be sure there are no suprises, and registration is proceeding at a good pace.

This may be our biggest year ever. We may fill all 50 slots.

If you have never done the Poker Run, you need to do it. There is nothing like seeing 40+ old VWs winding thru the mountains. Another bonus is that we end at Jake Raby's Aircooled Heaven and if you have never been there, it is worth the trip.

You can sign up the day of the run. We will be set up with a table behind the Best Western. The Best Western is on the main street coming into Helen.
Please come early to sign up as we will pull out as close to 10:00am as possible.

After some discussion, it's been decided to limit the prizes to 5, in order to speed up the awards time at the end of the run.

There may be a few more, I haven't called them yet, 'cause I'm way too busy running my store. If neccessary, we will give cash as the remaining prizes. Any small donations (hats, stickers, etc..)will be placed on a table and up for grabs.

We will be grilling burgers at the Hotel for everyone after the run, but we ask that you provide your own beverages.

The Poker Run is this weekend in Helen, and it looks like we are going to have beautiful weather! I'm bringing a jacket though in case it gets chilly in the parking lot at the hotel like it did last year.

As mentioned on the first page of this post, we are back at the Best Western Riverpark Inn. The parking lot is a little easier to negotiate than the other spot.

We'll gather in the parking lot of the shopping center sorta behind the Best Western like we have been. For those who have not done the run before, just look for at of the VWs and you'll find the right spot.

We will be taking registrations and handing out tee shirts on Friday night and Saturday morning before the run.

We need to leave the parking lot promptly at 10am on Saturday so that we can make it to our first destination (Fender's Diner in Cornelia) before the regular lunch crowd takes up all of our seats.

As Clyde mentioned, we will award prizes from our esteemed sponsors for the top 5 or so poker hands. Beth and Jake have agreed to share their shop with us once again as our final stop.
