Today I learned that my welding skills need a lot more practice.
I cut the supports off and moved them back out on my four inch narrowed bj beam (my neighbor migged it up for me) Then I bolted the beam up to my thing chassis and measured side to side many times to get them beam centered and then I welded the supports back on. Pics to come tomorrow.

900 degrees of hell at 3 o'clock today on a trip from Grayson to Woodstock with my two year old and dog in tow, I had a brake lock up on me. We made a pit stop on the way and as we were getting ready to leave I put here in gear and chocked her down. No problem, everyone stalls one out at least once in their life. Fired her, let out the clutch, moved an inch and kaput. WTF! I started her again, eased off the clutch and did the old "you left the brake on" head smack but the brake was off and there was something holding me back. I felt the brake peddle and it was hard as a rock, no sponge no nothing, like a hard welded piece of metal to the frame. I yanked and released the hand brake a few times, put all 205 lbs of my fat ass into the brake pedal, fired her up, jammed the gas, dumped the clutch and hoped for the best. She shuttered, sputtered and farted a bit but something gave and she shot out of the gate live a greyhound with the squirts.

We made it to Woodstock and I'll have to give her a once over tomorrow.

Short story long. "What did I do to my vdub today?" I threatened that piece of shit with a trip to the junk yard!

Just finished cutting down and reinstalling the leafs in the four inch beam. Then it started raining and now I have to wait to finish it up.

Awesome man. A narrowed adjustable beam is another of the things on my list for future upgrades. Today I loaded up the truck with my five freshly painted rims and new tires and headed to the only tire shop in town that can balance old vw wheels. Got to the shop and the sign on the door said "closed for vacation, will be back next week". Shocked Oh well, guess another few days won't kill me. I also drove to Decatur and met Gary and picked up a decklid. A while back at pull-a-part I picked up a 69-70 decklid with the "vert-like" vents. I plan on getting the dents out of the lid Gary sold me and welding in the vents to make a fake vert decklid. That's a future project, got to focus on getting the thing on the road first. Here's the truck loaded up today.

Just got some new tires for her. Yokohama Super Van 356 185R14 8P, they have a max load of 1850 lbs. They handle so much better than the standard passenger tires that were on there when I bought her. Now she is ready for a weekend trip to Charlotte for a little Widespread Panic cheers

Got the beam in today. I had to raise it back up due to having too tall of tires and no dropped spindles yet.... Still have to cut down the tie rods but they wont be here till tomorrow.
