Re: Daytona WinterJam 2011
Ahhh yes. Your annual "break in the new engine" event! Can't wait to see Pearl ready to roll. ........ could you get me a t-shirt?
Maybe by next year I can have my s#*! together and get down there for the jam. It's so frustrating cuz I've got family/friends that I could stay with! (FYI....In 1992 I saved Old Yeller from an Ormond Beach trailer park, and built her in my folks garage)
Sorry, the memories are getting to me.
If any of you go- great scenic photo ops in Tomoka State Park, northward along the river, on the mainland side, or the crossovers toward the beach- it's called 'the Ormond Loop', because the crossovers connect to A1A.
Directions to, and through the park....."The Ormond Loop"
Starting on Granada Blvd. (Rt. 40 in Ormond Beach). Take North Beach St (It's on the mainland side at the base of the bridge- along the river and heading northward). You follow that north and will enter the actual park after a few miles. Lots of overhanging Live Oaks (They're HUGE trees!), a beautiful 2 lane drive. You'll go for miles, and it becomes Old Dixie Highway. Continue on! Eventually, you'll come to Walter Boardman Lane on the right, just before a very sharp left turn on Old Dixie- turn right onto Walter B. (scenery becomes more marshy)! This will lead you across a creek, and after crossing that take a right on Highbridge Road- this will get you back to A1A, where you turn right to head back to Daytona. For a couple miles, you enjoy some unobstructed ocean view on your left as you head back southward. As you progress down the concrete canyon that A1A has become, keep an eye out for the major intersection- at Rt. 40, Granada Blvd. Here is the end of your journey.
If you go on this adventure- just be careful on the middle section, crossing to A1A, there are some very sharp turns, and you don't wanna really see if your VW floats- I tried that once on the Loop- it didn't!
Fahrvergnόgen!
