Hi, I'm Floyd

Post by 53Herbie on Sun Mar 14, 2010 2:56 pm

Hello all,
I'm Floyd and I have 65 Herbie Replica. I been around the VW scene for years with different vehicles, been in and out
of VW's for years. My car is daily driver, 65 made to look like a 63.
I usually drive him to charity events and parades live Dragoncon, St Patricks Day and Christmas Day Parade.
I have also have a complete Don Knotts Costume from Herbie goes to Monte Carlo. Yes i'm a geek.

Right now I'm in need of some help tuning a new engine. I'm willing to pay someone with experience to sync and adjusting a set of Empi
44 carbs. Drop me an email if your gifted in this area.
Nice to meet you all.
Floyd

Welcome to the site! Very nice Herbie you have there. Unfortunately I know nothing about tuning carbs, but hope to see you and the car out at some of the upcoming shows.

Whats up Floyd! Hows the engine running other than a carb adjustment? Good to see you found the forums.

I would love to help but tuning those carbs are not really my thing. I had Bobby tune them before. The best palce to go would probably be Raby's.
He coul put it on the dyno and figure it out

Welcome and I agree with Gary. You can get them adjusted and tuned on the ground just fine but if you are looking to fine tune, properly jet and maximize the engines HP, then a dyno is the way to go.

Wow Floyd, thats a great looking Herbie- Nearly exact! I love the no hubcap/racing dress looktoo. The Don Knotts headgear is the icing on the cake!

Jake Raby, I hear is excellent, and think he does his own dyno stuff too- but I have never made it out there. I go to ProFlow, in Hiram (Steve and Valerie) for all my engine/carb needs. Come to think of it, most any VW mechanical stuff- whatever I don't want to try, or stuff I did try and screwed up! Steve does EXCELLENT work- not only does he have a lot of V8/VW building and racing experience, he's had a full career as a BMW tech instructor too. The guy is a complete motorhead (and that's a great quality in a mechanic!) Very friendly, and helpful.
Evening and Saturday hours- 770- 653- 2436.
Welcome to the forum too- you won't find a greater bunch of people! Very Happy

Thanks for the compliments.
The helmet is a vintage Bell R/T helmet from the 60's the same as Don's.
Since most of Don's costume patches are of made up sponsors with the exception of Good Year and Bell, I recreated all the logo patches
from scratch with some help from the folks at Love Bug Forum. The costume is hilarious looking!

At one time Jake had built one of my Type IV motors years ago. I was his 8th customer when he had started up.
I like Jake, he's a good guy. Just a bit far away. I might try Steve or get with Lindy at Herrells to help me next week. I'll make it out this summer to some events as soon as get these carbs dialed in.
