My 63 Bug better known as Baxter

Post by aircooledaddicts on Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:54 pm

This is Baxter, my 63 Bug. He is down two clicks in the rear and is running a 6.25 inch narrowed beam Shocked up front with dropped spindles. The motor is a 1600dp with Weber dual carbs and a 67 trans with a short axel conversion.

If that tranny has a good switch in the nose cone then you can hook up back lights. Just a suggestion as I hate having to back in anywhere when it is dark with my bug as it has an earlier tranny in it now. Crying or Very sad

Gary - what size tire do you have on the rear of your bug? I currently have 135R15's on the front and rear. I'm thinking about going with a bigger tire on the rear.

Thanks,

How much did the front clip replacement run you? I am looking at getting it done on Ashleys car.

If you like that narrow look then go with a 165/15. If you want a meaty look go with a 205/60/15. I would definately take those 135s off the back and atleast get a tire that is around the 25.5" mark that the stock tires were. That way you wont be over reving.

Are you talking about the 205/60s?

I dont know with your car on air how they would do. It may be better for you to stay with the 165s. I know my car is down two clicks in the rear and I have wide wheels and wide fenders but I am running 125/60/15 with no rubbing. The only reason for the wide fenders is due to the rims being 8 inch rims.

ok - thanks - I did some checking and found that 195 65R 15 is prety close to the 165R15 that it seems you can only get at a VW shop.

If you want a 165 my tire guy has two. I would have to ask how much they are running now, but he has some.

I'm running 195/65 15 on the back of my bug but I'm not lowered yet. I like that size cause its the same height as the 165/15 but its a little bit wider.

Yeah it turned out pretty good I think. I did have to add some bends to it but it sits
just right now. I can shift through all the gears and stay completly sitting back against the seat.
I actually cut the bottom section off my stock shifter and welded the bus shifter upper hals to it.
Now I just need to come up with some sick shift knob. Cool

How about one of those cool antique, glass door knobs?

Thats kinda what I'm looking for. I want to do something different that I have to make
work. Not something I can just go buy. I have a bathroom faucet handle I made work on
my motorcycle for my gas cap.
