I lived in Plano from 1979-1991 and used to be a member of the North Texas VW Club. In 1984-1987 when I was a member, we had a really good following at our bi-weekly meeting at Chips on North West Hwy. Several of our shows in '87 at the Motorplex in Ennis and had over 300 cars, buggies, etc.. Bobby Churchman was the president up to '86, then Jack Wink was elected to be the new club president. He had a super clean '65 Bug called "Black Gold" that was in Hot VWs and VW Trends in '87. Now I see he has a VW business in Ft Worth under that name.

There used to be 3 VW shops in the area, one was Southern Volks on Forest Lane in Dallas, the 2nd one was Volks Folks over in Las Colinas by DFW airport and Knights Foreign Auto parts over in Garland.

I miss Texas as well but my wife won't let us move there due to all the family lives on the east coast. The funny thing is, my '59 Bug is from Dallas, registered there from 1967 to 1997 and made its way to Georgia via Kentucky and Tennessee in 2006.

Hey Danny,

I've been in limited contact with Jack. Trying to work a joint setup between NTVW and TXAC.
Southern Volks & Knights are gone, I've heard Volks Folks has gone to the dark side (watercooled). Laughing

I guess the VW business is down to mail order stuff now. You wrote that your talking with the North Texas VW Club. I had a friend, well someone I haven't spoke within the 10 years is Greg Williams in the club. He has or had a '59 Beetle with right hand drive that I saw on the website.

Rick is the one I've talked to, haven't heard anymore on it so it may have reached a dead end?

RHD bug would be cool to have.
