Well took last night off. Went to the Thrashers game and watched them get their butts handed to them, thanks G. A.S. we enjoyed it anyways.

Today I was under the weather, Suspect so I stayed home and got a little done on Geek. Fender beading on the RF Fender, adjusted drivers door/installed upper screws, door handles, door latches, drivers vent window, hood painted but needs another coat at some point, cleaned a bunch of bolts and quarter windows.

I'll have to go to Lindy's Sat and get some parts but it's gettin close and I don't have an engine yet.

Little more progress this weekend. Got the interior painted with rattle can paint. Dupli-Color it went on very well and it looks close, a little dull. It's all the same color now!

This is what I started with....

And ended with this...

I also got the Speedo, wiper switch, light switch, ignition switch, grills and gas gauge installed.

I installed the vent window, seals and scrapers...

Got the passenger quarter window installed and found that the rear window that I got with the car is for a later car. Try putting an early window rubber on a window that is about 11 inches larger in circumference, it ain't happenin!

More later.

I got all the stuff to latch the doors and I checked my re-keyed locks Gabriel did for me at Bulli last year. They lock but the drivers door will not unlock. The passengers door locks and is real hard to unlock. Think I need to oil/grease them a good bit. They lock like normal just the unlock is hard. Suspect

Still got a lot to do.

Haven't done much on Geek. I've been putting off doing this.....

Now that looks like a redneck setup!

Fluxcap(Eric) came over today and we raised the body so I could drill out the dreaded broken bolts in the heater channel. Well those are out now and I cleaned all the crevices with a vac and I'm going to install some sound proofing on the package tray and pan. Wish I had a headliner would be real easy to install it now.

We also installed a windscreen....

It has this haze on it from the wipers. Anybody got any way to buff it out?

you can get the haze/scratches out with some 3000 grit wet sand paper and some buffing compound. you can pick up the compound at any auto paint supply store. this can be done with an electric drill or buffer if you have one.

Well I worked on Geek today.

I have an engine that I pulled apart and found that the crank is junk so I put it back together and put a flywheel on it and a pulley nut and bolted it up to the trans and clearanced it out for a 200mm flywheel. Looks like I took it to a machinist! Now I can work on the other stuff and take parts from O'Bugga and get Geek on the road for the trip down to Tampa in Nov.

I've got to work out some wipers, I've got 12v and good bit of 6v stuff I'm going to try to put a 12v motor on my 6v frame and see if it will work. I know that the 12v stuff parks one way and the 6v is opposite.

Well it's still freaking hot I hate this damn heat, I'm sick of it!!!!!! Supposed to be nice in the evenings this week.

Ok here he is.........

It's Geek and he's on the road, well for a week now. I wanted to roll up in him when we got ready to leave for Tamp/Bug Jam but since I'm not going this year I want to unveil him now!

There are a lot of parts from O'Bugga, Engine, Seats, Fuel Tank, Headlights and a few small items. I love the sunroof, I'll have to figure out how to keep my head from getting blistered next summer! I still have a list a mile long to do but most of that is creature comfort stuff, Carpet, Door panels, Rear Seat and heat.

Thanks to Mr. Conner for this guy he saved him from a yard and I was fortunate enough to purchase it from him. Really solid car it's a '64 w/Steel Sliding Sunroof! My first small window car!

Couple Specs...

2" Narrowed/Adjustable Beam
185/60R15 on 5.5x15 BRM's

One notch in Rear
215/65R15 on 6.5x15 BRM's

They do scrub just a touch on the body to pan connection.

Trans seems to be good to go but I didn't replace the input shaft seal and yeas it leaks badly!

Re: '64 Sunroof "Geek"

Post by rpm750 on Mon Oct 18, 2010 8:20 pm

Thanks Guys...
I do have a problem with the shifter and I can't seem to get anyone on The Samba to answer me so I'll try here. I even asked Lindy and he was clueless.

This is the combination.....
'58-'59 Pan Serial no. 2739764, '58-'59 Shift Rod
Trans Coupler
This one.....

Now on the pan there is no plastic bushing, it has a metal bracket that is a close/tight fit to the shift rod. If I install a lockout plate under the shifter I can only get it into 3rd and 4th. Oh yeah reverse also.

When I had the plate in it was installed like this...

I'm wondering if the plate is different for a '58-'59?
Is the shifter different for a '58-'59?
If I used the '64 shift rod would that make a difference?
