Eric gave me a Piasa Alton Illinois dealer emblem a while back. Its not a vw dealership but it looks cool. I was going to save it for a ratty car but got an itch to cover up the poorly patched holes in Javas decklid where a dealer emblem was....
Below the tag you can see the poorly patched holes where the dealer emblem was on the decklid at one point

Here it is after I put the badge that Eric gave me on

Now if I will just fix my crooked tag.....

Haven't updated this thread in a while.  I guess I will try and make a big update.  First a couple old and new snow pics.

As for progress on the car....I got tired of the vent windows knocking my mirrors loose and so when I finally found a good deal on some delswifts I picked them up.  I have since added the mirrors on the fenders and removed the threaded hinge pin for a regular one.  I sold my radars off the car to Randy are year or so ago so I could put my silver BRMs back on.

Also installed a Georgia Dubs badge

New steering wheel I picked up today.  Not sure if I am just going to install it or fix the big crack and repaint the outer rim.  Its a little pitted and some of the chrome has peeled but it is perfect for me.

After a quick scrub with some 0000 steel wool

Went ahead and installed the wheel for now.  I think I will repair the crack and repaint the outer rim at some point but I think I will enjoy it for a while until then.

That really does look awesome. That wheel is pretty cool....I'd never seen one like it.

Decided to change out the 6" beam installed in Java for a 4" beam.  So today I got my spare beam cut apart, cleaned out all the old grease, and welded everything back together.  Needle bearing beams are so much better than urethane beams.  I still have to cut the towers off, narrow the leaves, sandblast and paint!  The 6" beam that is coming out will be used on the truck buggy so with drop spindled disc brakes I can tuck those 6" wheels under the body.

Towers chopped off and capped and beam is blasted.....waiting to prime and paint until I have some more things ready so I can do them all at once.

Re: Java Green 64

Post by Attorney Isaiah Loophole on Tue Oct 06, 2015 12:03 am

I haven't driven this car much since I went to SOWO in May of 2014.  On the way up I started leaking gear oil in the bell housing.  This caused the clutch to become coated and very sticky.  Also I never fixed the rear wheel bearing that almost locked up on me coming back from Cherokee in 2012.  When it happened we were on the interstate and it felt like we had a flat tire. I ended up getting the car towed home that day. After I unloaded the car off the rollback and unloaded the camping gear the car raised up enough to get oil to the wheel bearing which quieted it down.  So really it has only been local drives since then.  I did purchase an expensive wheel bearing puller a while back and replaced that bearing in like 20 minutes.

Dad said he was willing to drive Java to the Aircooled Therapy session at Bugs 4 Christ this past Saturday so we loaded up both Jave and the ragtop and headed down Saturday morning.  I had already purchased a new clutch kit and input shaft seal for Java.  I also just purchased a rear lap belt and seat belt adapter plugs so Colby can ride in Java.  The plan was to pull the engine and replace the clutch, input shaft seal, re-route the fuel line thru the firewall instead of the front tin and install the seat belt for Colby.  After a long day both cars to do list were marked off!

I bought the baum type puller that has the interchangeable collets for different bearings.  I bought the body, the extension, and two collets one is specific to reduction gear box transaxles

here is a site I found that has pictures of the tool.  It was not cheap but after using it a few times it was well worth it to me!
