VW's and Wooden body conversions -(Politically Correct title)

Post by ASBug on Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:30 pm

Any one on here ever made a "woody" VW. I know - Jokes ahead, but seriously, has anyone done a good conversion?
I love working with wood and have wondered if anyone here has done it. Would like to use a wrecked bug that is 66 and back and use the '40 ford hood conversion on the front...
Thanks,
KC Very Happy

Popular Mechanics had plans available years back...perhaps you can still get them?

There is a group on Yahoo that helps old guys get woodies. (Oh wait, that's on the Pfizer web site!)

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/vwoodies/

If you decide to build one let me know. I might be interested in splitting the cost of the plans!

A shop up the street from me has plans to make C-cabs. Have worked on the ones they have. Looked pretty simple (until you start one!) but interesting beasts. They made the whole body out of wood then fiberglassed them.

Heres one I worked on for them that was sold to a local high school for foot ball games. It was a blast to drive!

That C-cab is cool!! Cool I would love to build one up to look like the old red-line hot wheels C-cab they had when I was a kid.

They have another one for sale, its brown with a dual carbed t-3 engine. Identical body. How about a Red Baron version?? One of my favs is Evil Weevil, here is my old bug which was comming close to an Evil Weevil clone..

I went to West Georgia for a year (around 98) and saw one of these on campus all the time. It was a darker blue color and had a regular vw hood. Probably still around somewhere.

VW12step,
I see that you have a square back, I saw a photo once of one that had alot of the rear pannels removed, It looked alot like a woody without the wood...
Have you ever thought of doing a square woody?
Just a thought,

Yeah, I saw that one awhile ago.
It has the 3 r's down: rotten, rusty and recked... And it's overpriced.
